La Casona is a building from the 16th century that at the time formed part of the property of the Ex Hacienda de “El Chorrillo”, the current location of CEPE-Taxco, and which UNAM has protected since 1992.
Today, restorations are taking place to change it into a university facility. Even though there is no historical research on what the precise use of La Casona was, it is easy to conclude that it was an important place in the life of the Ex Hacienda.
These elements, its age and the fact that it is a building of architectural and cultural importance for the city of Taxco, the National Institute for Anthropology and History (INAH) have arrived to coordinate the task of cataloging the building.
It is expected that the first stage of the restoration will conclude in June 2015.
