Historic archive of Taxco

The Municipal Historic Archive of Taxco is a collection of over 400,000 written historical, linguistic, and social documents that date back to 1666 to the end of the 20th century.
This heritage, the most important in the state of Guerrero because of its size, it has been protected by UNAM since 1997. The archive’s safekeeping was formalized in 2010 with an agreement between UNAM and the City Hall of Taxco de Alarcón.
Because of the importance of its content, starting in 2009 CEPE/UNAM-Taxco in coordination with the National Institute of Anthropology and History, work on the conservation and digitalization of this historic heritage. As of today, it contains 1498 images of 707 documents.
This extraordinary collection is a window to the history and life in Taxco, and its original documents and images are available to professors, researchers, and students who need them.
